The Smart Nature and Garden Action Plan

PREVENT, PLANT, PRESERVE and RENEW.

These are four simple steps anyone can take to develop green and healthy gardens, and habitats for visiting fauna such as migratory birds or marsupials.

PREVENT water waste, weeds, soil and water pollution. There are many things you can do to create a garden that needs less watering, feeding, maintenance, and creates less pollution. Here are some simple tips and actions:

PLANT sustainable gardens; from native to rooftop. Sustainable gardening is about creating a natural and balanced micro-ecosystem that thrives on minimal artificial inputs of water, fertiliser and replanting. In this way, the garden emulates nature by using local soil, climate and design to be healthy and naturally self-sufficient. Eco-gardens are many things at once, providing not only an outdoor recreational area and a beautiful view to admire from inside the home, but also a fresh food pantry, a recycler of kitchen and garden waste, a habitat for local wildlife, and possibly a store for re-usable grey water or harvested rainwater. Here are some ideas and actions:

PRESERVE and RENEW local biodiversity and wildlife corridors
