future-proof

Refers to actions and designs that will not become outdated anytime in the near future, because future developments and requirements have been anticipated. Future-proofing also aims to seize current opportunities to action anticipated requirements in the future. Examples of future-proofing include rewiring a home to provide the capacity to use solar energy at a later stage; or designing and building a step-free ground floor that will easily convert to contain essential services (bathroom/kitchen) and a bedroom as one becomes older.
