Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are a form of carbon credit that can be used to offset one’s total emissions. RECs were introduced by the Federal Government to increase renewable energy generation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel sources.

RECs can be generated from a range of activities such as installation of solar panels or solar hot water. RECs that are sold are counted towards the target of the Federal Government’s Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET).

For more information about RECs, visit the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator website.
