Other Council Programs

Start your own Initiative

There are plenty of resources for local action available for individuals and groups to get your project happening. If you have a great idea, but no people or funding, we can help.

Our programs for the general community are also about making Port Phillip more sustainable, because sustainability is all about community! Port Phillip offers resources in training to build your skills and confidence to contribute as a citizen.

Small Poppy Grants

Small Poppy Neighbourhood Grants support new projects that make a positive impact on local people in a neighbourhood by:

  • improving the appearance or use of shared space
  • building social connections
  • sharing resources and ideas, or
  • supporting neighbourhoods to adapt to climate change.

To find out how you can get funding to kick-start your neighbourhood project click here or email smallpoppy@portphillip.vic.gov.au or phone the City of Port Phillip Community Partnerships Officer on 03 9209 6838.

Community Grants

The City of Port Phillip encourages applications to the Community Grants Scheme from not for profit community groups. The Scheme aims to strengthen local communities through supporting a range of initiatives that enhance the health and well being of the Port Phillip community.

Community Leadership Training

Community Leadership Training is about increasing the confidence and skills of people to make contributions to their own community. It's about being more effective in leading projects by working smarter. It is also FUN, interactive and applies to community, personal and professional life.

Street parties and block parties

We have around 30 street parties happening all around the city of Port Phillip, especially during the summer, with neighbours coming together and celebrating their neighbourhood.

Street parties are easier to organise than you think, go to http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/street_parties.htm to download a kit or call Port Phillip Community Group (Anthea) on 9525 8746.
