Wind
The City of Port Phillip (CoPP) commissioned the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) to conduct a feasibility assessment to find and evaluate opportunities for the development of small wind turbines in the CoPP municipality.
Strategic Assessment of Small Wind Opportunities in the City of Port Phillip outlines the investigations and analysis undertaken by ATA between November 2011 and June of 2012, and associated recommendations regarding the potential of small wind in the CoPP.
The broad objectives of this project were as follows:
- To identify potential locations for detailed wind turbine site assessment throughout the CoPP municipality;
- Of those locations, to understand which would offer the greatest potential for effective utilisation of wind turbines and so may warrant further investigation such as more detailed wind resource assessment through modelling of the wind energy resource;
- To understand key site constraints, including those related to planning, grid connection, land use, technical and engineering constraints, environmental considerations and impact on amenity.
